About Me
Hello! I’m Emma, and I’m so excited to share my love for the ancient and beautiful art of hand spinning and knitting with you. With more than 30 years of experience in the fibre arts, my journey has been one of joy, creativity, and constant discovery. There’s something truly magical about transforming raw fibres into soft, hand-spun yarn, and it’s a passion that’s only grown stronger with time.
My adventure into hand spinning started back in 2007, just before my daughter was born, during a beautiful chapter of my life in Australia. I had already spent 10 years running a yarn store, The Wool Shack, but I was eager to learn more and deepen my understanding of how different fibres and spinning techniques could bring a project to life.
Once I discovered hand spinning, it felt like I had found my true calling. I went on to open Spun Out, a store dedicated to hand spinning, where I carefully curated gorgeous fibres, artisanal drop and support spindles, and some of the world’s finest spinning wheels. Every piece was chosen with care, knowing that it could spark someone else’s creativity.
Over the years, I’ve explored countless spinning techniques and worked with all kinds of fibres, creating custom, one-of-a-kind yarns for a wide range of projects. Whether I’m experimenting with new textures or helping others discover the joy of spinning, my love for this craft continues to grow with every thread I spin.
Now back in the UK, my journey into the world of slow making is continuing with Fresh Purl, and I hope you can join me for workshops in my home studio in Wimborne, Dorset, or visit me at at a variety of Pop Up's and Markets throughout the year.
